Medical Reporting Organisations (MROs)

If you are a Medical Reporting Organisation (MRO) you are now able to submit an application to register with MedCo

Please note the MedCo Audit Team is currently completing the 2018 programme of work to audit all operational MROs; as a result, new MRO audit applications related to new registrations are currently subject to a short delay. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

MRO categories

There are two types of MRO registration and the qualifying criteria for each has been decided by MoJ. Please read through the criteria before making an application.

Finalised qualifying criteria for MROs - revised.pdf

NB: All new and existing MROs are required to submit documentary evidence of their compliance with the qualifying criteria as set by the MoJ. Failure to submit this evidence will result in applications being declined or access to MedCo suspended.

In addition, all organisations will be audited by MedCo. Audited companies who fail to demonstrate that they have met the full qualifying criteria for their registered category will be re-categorised with no refund.

User Agreements

All MROs will need to accept the terms of the MRO User Agreement and pay a fee. You will also need to upload details of the medical experts who work for you.

Financial bond

Please note that as part of the MRO registration, you will need to demonstrate compliance with the MedCo Bond Criteria. Evidence of your provision will need to be shown in the event of a MedCo conducted audit of your organisation.

ICO Registration

Please note that you must register your organisation as it is shown with the Information Commissioner’s Office “Register of fee payers”.

Authorised Users intending to register on MedCo are required to have a current registration with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO).

Under the 2018 Regulations, organisations or individuals who determine the purpose for which personal data is processed (Data Controllers), must pay a data protection fee unless they are exempt.

As part of your registration with MedCo, we will ask you for a valid ICO number which we will verify with the ICO register of fee payers. If you do not have an ICO registration, you can find out how to register on the ICO website www.ico.org.uk.
